Portrait, Thom Pringle’s newest project intertwines photography, music and field recordings into a set of photographic diptychs and a four track ambient music album.

This project is my visual and sonic poetry project for the Sunshine Coast of Queensland. I’ve often dismissed the beauty of the Sunshine Coast, constantly searching for inspiration elsewhere and making sure to be moving and travelling as often as possible. Every time I landed back in my hometown I couldn't wait to to get back out in the world as quickly as possible. However, this last time coming back to the Coast, I knew I was going to have to stay for a decent period of time, so I wanted to take the time to pay tribute to the land. The beaches, farmland, forests, waterfalls, ponds, lakes, mountains and so much more that filled the endless hours of the day.

The four musical compositions are all seven minutes long, each track reflecting a certain time of the day. The instruments and sounds are inspired by weather and nature and I wanted to represent the landscape via the four different tracks. With a small external recorder and some time in different environments I was able to capture different recordings to add some natural life to the tracks. I also took my camera out every time I was out recording audio to to give a visual aspect of the surroundings I was immersed in. The warm and rich Kodak Portra film was used to show a honest view the vibrant ecosystems and feeling of heat that surrounds the nature in the Queensland environment. Browse the photos while listening to the album.

Enjoy the warmth as you fill the room with smooth ambient textures and enjoy the Australian nature experience.
